Autumn in Taos: Second Season; Wollmeise

You may remember this:

It has been in hibernation, sleeveless, all summer.  It's finally cool enough to work on it again, so I pulled it out of hibernation.

I remember when #8 needles seemed tiny to me.  Now they seem huge because I have been messing around with all of that fingering weight yarn.

I knew that it was only a matter of time before I decided that I had to get my hands on some of that Wollmeise yarn that makes people so crazy and is practically impossible to get.  I checked ebay and there was no way that I was going to pay $75 for a skein of yarn, so I decided to join the fray and "stalk" a Wollmeise update in order to get it at regular retail price.

For those of you not familiar with this insanity: the Wollmeise sells out within hours, if not minutes, of being posted for sale, so the addicts "stalk" the site when they know that an update of new inventory is coming.  This involves camping out at the PC and refreshing the Wollmeise site every minute or so to catch the new inventory.  While doing this, there is loads of conversation going on in the Wollmeisaholics group on ravelry as everyone waits ...

The most recent update of the Wollmeise site was Friday, so I did it.  I filled up my "wish list" of the yarns I would like and camped out to hit F5 to refresh the screen nearly continuously.  I did this for hours, but I lucked out and now some of the most-sought-after-yarn-in-the-world is on its way to me.   I am so anxious to get it and see what all of the fuss is about...

I am on a short trip to Dresden and on saturday I went to the small town of Pfaffenhofen to t he Wollmeise shop and met Claudia, the dyer. What struck me most was the brilliant colors - I guess tha tmust be what people are crazy about? I am not a Wollmeise addict but I visited cos my friend was telling me about it. Nonetheless, i bought a whole bunch for my stash! Dani, one of the ladies there told me that for socks one shd use the "Twin". The 100% superwash is not meant for socks cos it has no nylon for strength. Claudia said she is discontinuing all the worsted. It is a small shop but the colors...lovely!!
