My pseudo-Grecian socks

I have the attention span of a gnat.  Just a few weeks ago I was all fascinated by cables and was scoping out gorgeous, ambitious cabled sweaters.

But, before I had even finished the first Celtic Braid sock, my Ravelry wanderings took me off into the land of whimsical colorwork socks.  I also received three beautiful skeins of Eidos yarn from The Sanguine Gryphon in colors that reminded me of this beautiful fresco at the Palace of Knossos, which I saw on a wonderful trip to Crete many years ago.

I became obsessed with a vague vision of some magical "Grecian" socks that I wanted to knit.  I studied countless patterns for wonderful colorwork socks, and added a whole bunch of them to my Ravelry queue, but none of quite fit the vision that I had in my head.  And that's how I decided to take the plunge into stranded color knitting by jumping right into making up my own pattern.  This is what I have so far:

I was rather discouraged after I knit the "key" design because I knit it too tight and I can barely get it over my heel.  Last night, however, I took a deep breath and soldiered on (with a much simplified pattern), and the next color section is much stretchier because I knit it very loosely.

Like most knitting techniques, it really isn't difficult.  I learned by watching an online video.  I can't find the one that I originally watched, but this is a good one.

Do the colors look familiar?  Yes, they are very close to the colors in Prism's Terra Cotta colorway.  I keep gravitating back to them, which is odd, because I have always thought that my favorite colors are green and purple.
