Prism's New Spring 2008 Collection
I have been debating about whether to write about this or not because I have no pictures to show the amazing things that I saw yesterday. I finally decided to keep it short and just give you fellow Prism junkies a heads up that the collection for the new pattern book that is coming out in a few weeks is possibly the best collection yet.
Prism is based down here in St. Petersburg, and yesterday they had a sneak preview trunk show of the new collection at the Fiber Art yarn shop in Odessa (that's Tampa for those of us who don't live in the Tampa/St Pete area).
I do have a photo of the amazing Prism Stuff skirt designed by YarnOverLounge because I snagged the photo from her site (and I assume that she won't mind as long as I tell you that you can purchase the pattern here):

LJ from Prism, who hosted the trunk show, was wearing the skirt, and it is stunning! She was wearing it over a long skirt. Roze (the owner of Fiber Art) tried it on over slim black pants and it looks great that way as well. It takes 2 skeins of Prism Stuff and will be in the new Prism pattern book, or you can buy it separately from www.yarnoverlounge.com (and while you are there, check out her other wonderful designs).
The rest of the collection includes several different takes on modular knitting that are really fresh and very flattering. I wanted to knit just about everything I saw. The two new yarns that they are introducing are "plain" worsted and DK yarns that are ideal for modular knitting. By plain, I mean no nubs, lashes, bumps, etc. One is 100% tencel and the other is a cotton/rayon/nylon/tencel blend where the fibers are spliced together so that you get different textures and sheens, but the yarn itself remains the same "width" throughout.
I will wait until the yarns and books are available and I get my hot little hands on them before I rave any more. It's just not the same without pictures. I am hoping to be able to snag some of the new yarns on a factory visit/shopping trip that Fiber Art is hosting in February. I love those trips, because whenever they start dying new yarns, they always have some accidents that don't come out looking exactly like the regular Prism colorway, and sometimes those accidents make it to the discount table...
This was the first time that I had a chance to go to Fiber Art in Tampa. It's quite a large (and beautiful) store, with a wide variety of yarns. There is a room full of Noro, another full of novelty yarns, and rooms that I barely had time to look in ... the shop just seems to go on forever!
While I was there, I picked up an Annie Modesitt Mitered Jacket pattern that has a really interesting approach to mixing colors:

I like the way that the colors transition from the top down, with a more complex combination at the top, flowing down to simpler blocks. That is also my favorite neckline for sweaters.
